The "Writing the Image" exhibition at the Museum of Art and History of Sainte-Anne Hospital will be unveiled during a guided tour.
Place : Paris
Duration : 1h30

The collection of the Museum of Art and History at Sainte-Anne Hospital comprises one-tenth of its works in text form.

This significant number of written pieces, within a collection dedicated to the visual arts, is a distinctive feature inherent to its nature and intimately linked to the context in which the works were created.

The written works in the exhibition “Writing the Image” are of various kinds: personal writings, writings of invention, and technical writings.

Nearly 140 works created by some twenty artists between 1888 and 1970 are presented in this exhibition, allowing us to explore the duality, but also the complementarity, that can exist between the status of a work of art and the status of a historical object associated with a written text.

The MAHHSA is the first hospital museum dedicated to art to have been awarded the “Musée de France” designation, in 2016. It explores all forms of connections between art and psychiatry.

Its mission is to preserve, restore, study, and enrich the collection, as well as to make it accessible to the widest possible audience.

The exhibition “Writing the Image”: January 12 to April 7, 2024.
